Vogue Festival

Today I went to the Vogue Festival in London, and my what a day I had!

I went to see the talk on Fashion, Beauty and the Digital Revolution with speakers Nick Knight, Mary Katrantzou, Pixie Geldof and Miroslava Duma. The premise of this talk was that in digital world that is changing continuously, what is next for the industry? I question I found interesting, and the talk was brilliant, with each speaker talking about their own personal experience with their work or company and digital media. Took a few sneaky pics too have a look below!

The talk was fun, interesting and as you can see from the picture just above this writing that there was some serious laughs too! Great and inspirations speakers really brought this topic to life, thanks for making the talk so enjoyable and worth while!

This year they also sold tickets for foyer entry only, and there is plenty to do there!! From Burberry make up artists doing make up, the lovely ladies from O.P.I doing nails, might have got mine done, hairstylists doing all the hottest hair trends from the catwalk. Show and tell sessions with editors and designers, signing sessions with guest speakers, Vogue shop, and various vogue and Harrods bars.
There really is so much to see and do there its worth the money and most of if is for free!

Now for a few pics of the great freebies at this event, and reading material.

Also my one buy this fabulous, classical and sophisticated Vogue Boden top. Ok so I'm not normally a Boden girl but I just loved this top. I shall be wearing this with black trousers in winter and shorts in the summer in the South of France, can't wait!

Did you go to the Vogue Festival? What was your best bit?

Friday Favourite

This weeks Friday favourite is . . .

For Details Click Here
This amazing dress has made my list this week and I'm sure you can see why!
This tunic dress is from Ted Baker and can be bought via House of Fraser, and its currently on sale so what is there to stop us buying it, maybe it's a sign! I fell in love with this dress instantly, the print is so amazing, I also love it on a more personal note as it reminds me of my travels around Italy last summer, maybe its the colours or maybe its the great architecture but it just makes me smile, sad I know. This collage of print consists of Regency houses coloured in pastel shades repeating themselves all over the dress. Constructed with a V-neck to break up the print, and three quarter length sleeves to flatter any lady's arms. Fastened by a contrast zip again a nice detail to help break up the print. This dress really is wonderful, and so on trend with the pastel print.

This print is also available on other Ted Baker pieces if this dress isn't your style check them out while they are still available! Click here to see the collection.

Sports Luxe Trend

Another week another trend report for Spring / Summer 2014, this week its is the Sports Luxe trend.
Think oversized basketball shirts, boxer shorts, cut off denims (think surfer), vest tops, mesh pieces, micro tops, and micro dresses disguised as vests.

If you need someone to look at for inspiration on how to wear this trend how about these ladies below, an obvious Sports Luxe star is Rihanna. then we have on occasion Cara Delevigne, the lovely Rita Ora to name a few. These feisty ladies all really rock this look, in their own way.

I have had a look around at three big highstreet stores to find some great pieces for you to wear this trend if you need a bit of help. Of course River Island was my first choice especially as Rihanna has collaborated with them over the last few years.

River Island have such a great range for this trend with shorts, long vests and oversized shirts, chunky gold jewellery and awesome trainers and heels. Of course a few Rihanna pieces in there too. I personally like the oversized baseball inspired tops, the 92 and 95 in particular.

Topshop provides us with some mesh pieces, loose knit jumpers that look like mesh, oversized jerseys, sporty sweatshirts, crop tops and duffel sports bags and backpacks. They also are stocking interesting shoes and gladiator sandals that would add a little edge to these pieces this Spring / Summer.
Their current collaboration with adidas is especially brilliant for this trend with practical and trendy pieces for working out and just day to day dressing, Topshop timed this collaboration well!

H&M give us more jewellery pieces and tops than the other stores. They even provide us with three great caps for all kinds of sporty girls, to top off this look. With interesting bomber jackets, cropped hoodies and sporty parka jackets available too you will find something that you can wear for this trend.

Of course there are some other great pieces around in other stores and brands these are just to start you off.

Which is your favourite piece? Are you a sporty girl?

Wednesday Want

Yes, it is that time of the week again, we've already had our Wednesday Icon of the week, now it is time for  this weeks Wednesday Want.
And the chosen piece is . . .

For Details Click Here
this amazing coat by Tara Jarmon at House of Fraser!
I love the vibrancy of the blue bursting out of the jacquard print designed in the shape of diamonds. This unusual, yet statement jacket is single breasted, and fastened as you can see by blue and white fabric buttons on the centre front. This piece is perfect for keeping warm but standing out. Now I had never heard of this brand before but after looking at their page on House of Fraser's website I was intrigued by their sharp tailoring and interestingly shaped garments. A fun range of clothing perfect for work, but with an interesting twist or detail have a look for yourself by clicking here.
Anyway back to this jacket, it would sit beautifully over a light dress in the summer or tight tailored trousers for an evening out, and is both perfect for flats and for heeled shoes.

How would you wear it?
I'll show you how I would a bit later today.

Icon - Philip Treacy

This weeks Wednesday Icon is the wonderful and awe inspiring Philip Treacy!

This man's vision has changed how we perceive hats now a days, hats aren't so much formal wear but works of art pushing the boundaries of fashion and millinery. Have a look for yourself at his creations . . .

Designing for demure ladies, princesses, socialites and beloved rebels, he creates unique pieces complimenting each lady and making a statement whether big or small.

Born in Ireland in 1967, Treacy later moved to Dublin to study fashion at the National College of Art and Design it was during this time we went and undertook an internship with milliner Stephen Jones. Choosing to study for his masters in London's Royal College of Art, it was here he got his name out by taking one of his hats to Tatler Magazine where my beloved Icon Isabella Blow (Delves Broughton at the time though) was style editor. She proceeded to ask Treacy for a bespoke piece for her upcoming nuptials to Detmar Blow in 1989. This sparked a life long friendship between the two. After graduating Treacy even opened workshops in the basement of her house, if that's not friendship I don't know what is.

In 1991 one of his creations appears on the cover of British Vogue and he later wins his first BFC Accessory Designer of the Year Award. He then starts to create pieces for catwalk shows, such as Chanel, Valentino, McQueen and Givenchy to name but a few. In 1993 he had his first solo show with world famous super models walking the runway in his hats.

In 2000 he was extended an invitation by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture to stage his Orchid Collection in Paris, this was the first Couture show devoted exclusively to hats, if that doesn't show you how special this man is I really don't know what will!

He created Camilla Parker Bowles headpiece for her wedding to Prince Charles. He also was behind Princess Beatrice and Eugenie's hats at Prince William and Kate's wedding, yes  you know which ones I mean.

2007 Isabella Blow dies, prompting Treacy and McQueen to join forces to dedicate a show in her honour. He also had one of his most incredible creations on her coffin as it was carried to the cathedral for her funeral. An inspiring mentor and close friend  they shared a bond till the end. He received an OBE later that year.

Who can forget his pieces for Lady Gaga's telephone video!

2010 took another of his close friends Alexander McQueen, papers chose to use one of Treacy's pieces for the cover see the stunning piece below.

2012 Treacy made a comeback with his own catwalk show which received more acclaim and showed he shows no signs of slowing down, thank goodness.

I'm sure you can see why he is this weeks Wednesday Icon!

Sunday Splurge

This week I have found the most amazing Sunday Splurge!
It is no exaggeration that I am actually in love with this weeks Sundays Splurge!
May I present the Zoe Dragonfly shoe by another new find of mine, Miista. Miista is a footwear brand based in Hackney, London, this company seem to pride on mixing unusual elements and deliberately juxtaposing them to create these wonderful creations. These shoes are currently on pre-order and I cannot wait for them to come back online, and on sale!
The shoes are made from insect like sapphire mail, for extra durability the shoes are lined in real leather.
Which makes them well worth the price tag.
These shoes definitely have the wow factor, a statement piece just look how they shine!

I will be keeping my eye on this brand and on this shoe, I can't wait to see what they come up with next!!

New Buys . . .

So went to pick up one of my new buys today from New Look. I found this dress in their online sale and instantly fell in love with it. It's simple, classic and stylish. A piece that can simply be thrown on in the morning but appears as if I've made a real effort, which is always good when you're in a rush.

Price Click Here
This dress is so comfy, it is perfect for work and for play! Wear with tights or bare legs, when it gets hotter of course. Here are a few looks I will be pairing with this dress.

For Stocklists Click Here
Look one is a daytime look, with the dress as a base I have paired it with a lovely lace parka jacket from Warehouse. Living in England we never know what the weather is going to be like so this lace pac a mac is brilliant, a stylish solution to keeping dry in the rain. These sandals are very glamorous and perfect for taking a summer outfit from day to night. Taking inspiration from the gold in the sandals it's only fitting to keep the jewellery the same colour, I love these stacking rings and bangles simple and elegant. Adding some colour through my nail varnish, how great is this colour from Barry M! Finishing this look off with a white quilted backpack from River Island, practical for a day out in the sun.

Look two . . .

For Stocklists Click Here
This is the most casual look out of the three with this denim waterfall jacket and awesome denim keds, matching the blue from the dress. This time adding a statement necklace to draw some attention back onto the dress. Adding a burst of purple through the choice of nail polish and fringed bag. The fringed bag is perfect for the festival season, I'm always carrying a fringed bag at festivals, fun and practical. This is a more slouchy look, made for chilling in the park in the summer sunshine with your friends.

Finally Look three . . .
A look for the evening. Using the white from the dress as a base and adding statement but complimentary pieces such as the white structured jacket, a white handbag for those party essentials. Add some silver jewellery to add a little point of interest on your fingers and ears. I love these brogues and they work with this look so well, don't you think? Nail polish, a nice metallic blue to shimmer at the bar. Classy, elegant but an overall edgy look.

How would you wear this dress?

Friday Favourite

This Friday I have my eye on these heels from Irregular Choice, how fabulous are these?!?!

Look at the shape the curves. They really are just the most fabulous statement heels. The bright colours are just so fun and playful. I am lucky enough to own a pair of Irregular Choice heels, not these ones above but they are on my wish list. With only limited numbers ever made, to own a pair of Irregular choice shoes really is something special! They are also the most comfortable heels I own. I really love this company and these Drusha heels are no exception.

TBT Fashion Trends

Yes it is time for another TBT moment and for this week we have . . .

the infamous 'bumster' trousers by Alexander McQueen. These trousers were from his Spring / Summer 1996 collection, named 'Dante'. It was this piece that sparked off the low rise trouser trend, that went on to last for 6 years, yes really six years!. So really we have McQueen to blame for the boys who like to wear they trousers so low you kinda have to fight the urge not to run and pull them down or up, think Miranda Hart and the pulling up the boys trousers episode. See below . . .

Got any ideas for some great TBT fashion moments?

These dresses from Whistles! As you may have noticed they are all the same, I just wanted to show you how amazing this dress is in each of the available colours. I spotted this dress in one of their stores today and I just fell in love. The dress features feminine lace panelling details, a high neck, pleated front placket detail on the bodice, and is finished with a full sun-ray pleated skirt.
This dress needs no accessories it speaks for itself, just finish with classy pumps or simple courts. Perfection!
The colours are also perfect and on trend, whether your a pink girl or not there is something for everyone. I personally love the navy, classic and elegant, but the yellow is fun and perfect for spring and summer.I couldn't pick between them!
I just love the lines on this dress it really is something special, the clever designers at Whistles have also created a longer version for the evening too which is also breathtaking. If only I had an event or an occasion coming up!

Icon - Marlene Dietrich

This week we have the wonderful Marlene Dietrich as my Wednesday Icon.
One of the most controversial women of the early 20th Century, openly bisexual, famously promiscuous, and known for her masculine style how could this Hollywood siren not make it onto my icon list.

Born in 1901 in Berlin. Interested in music from an early age but as she entered her teens she started to explore acting and appeared in her first film in 1923, Tragedy of Love. Dietrich epitomised the femme fatale and explored notions of feminism in her choice of roles throughout her career. This actress and singer was one of the most stunning and glamorous actresses of the 1930s and 40s. This icon is known for her smouldering looks, sex appeal, distinctive voice and unusual personal style for the times. She was a pioneer of trousers for women in the 30s.

In 1930 she was put on the world map when she stared in Germany's first talking picture Der Blaue Engel. This was later re-filmed in English with the same cast. She played Lola Lola a nightclub dancer who wore tuxedo jackets and shorts, this hit film helped make her a global star. Moving to America shortly after this she stared in another hit film called Morocco in which she received her only Academy Award nomination.

She started her climb on the fashion steps by wearing trousers and more masculine fashions off screen and even on screen. This attracted a lot of attention at the time and she really was a pioneer of more masculine fashions being reworked for women to wear.

Dietrich was a strong opponent of the Nazi government and when asked to return to make more films in Germany she declined, the result her films being banned in Germany. She had the last word though when she then became a US citizen in 1939. She also used to travel and entertain allied troops during the second world war.
In the mid-1950s she returned to singing and performed in concerts all around the world and even finally returned to Germany. She gave up performing in the 1970s and moved to Paris where she became a recluse. Her last performance was an audio commentary piece for a documentary about her life called Marlene. She died in 1992, in her Paris apartment. Her grandson said when speaking about her reclusion in her apartment that ‘She hadn't spent 60 years creating an image for it to be destroyed by photos of her ageing.’

She was and still remains a style icon, with her intoxicating looks and a sex appeal that has endured through the ages. Interestingly today there is an auction of some of her belongings including her infamous tuxedo jacket bidding opens today at www.auctionmystuff.com
Do you love this Icon? Or have any ideas for people I should look at?

Trend My Way . . .

This springs pastel trend finally styled my way.

First of all I'll start with the base of this outfit this stunning yellow pastel skater style dress by new brand wearEPONYMOUS, W.E for short. This new brand has some great pieces for you to feast your eyes on so have a look!

This dress is a great shape and will hug my curves in the right places, but then flare out in that typical skater style. Very flattering and elegant. Styled above with a tan belt but could be changed to a black belt in winter. For the cooled evenings I would throw on this suede black jacket to keep me warm and to accentuate the shape shown off by the dress. Next some nice gold accessories to compliment the pastel yellow of the dress. My choice of bag is of course the pastel version of my trusty yellow bag, a perfect match with this dress, made for each other some might say. Finished off with these boots again featuring gold detailing to match the over all look of this outfit. I would wear this for both day and night events and occasions, love it!

How would you wear this trend?
