Erdem

Erdem, what is there to say about this designer and his visions apart from that he is a breathtaking genius. Again he has shown this through his latest collection at the recent London fashion week. This collection was inspired by the artist Velazquez, more commonly known for his 'Venus' painting. The artist tended to paint portraits which I would say most probably were the main source of inspiration for Erdem, examples of which can be seen below.

Close up of the designers work makes it clear to see the similarities between the collection and the artists paintings.

The black velvet frocks and mix of laser-cut and embroidered doily patters mimic the ruff collars and details seen in the stately paintings of Velazquez. Erdem's modern twist on the concertina pleated collars of the 1600's works really well as a more subtle style relates better to 21st century life. There is no doubt that this collection has a regal air about it, and with refreshingly fresh and young hemlines this is a stunning and perfectly orientated collection. Crystal embellishment also cannot be ignored in this collection as a finishing detail as it is simply everywhere, on dresses, shearling coats, or bursting through sheer fabrics.

Erdem just get's better and better can not wait to see what he comes up with next!
